2024 editorial

Over the past 23 years, the Beckett Festival in Roussillon, Provence, has brought together a host of artists and specialists for a series of meetings, readings, symposia, exhibitions, stage performances and screenings. Encounters with the public are an essential dimension of the festival, and we intend to strengthen them by increasing the number of pre-events.

Once again, this year, the Beckett Festival will present an eclectic and challenging programme supported by renowned artists and specialists, including fresh initiatives aimed at strengthening the festival’s wider contribution and impact in the region. Workshops will be offered in local media libraries (Apt, Bonnieux, Roussillon…) with a view to raising public awareness of the playwright’s artistic universe and life.

We are also delighted to work in partnership with Le Bleuet bookshop in Banon and with the Dora Maar Cultural Centre in Ménerbes.

Thanks are due to the Department of Vaucluse, the Pays d’Apt Lubéron group of municipalities, Roussillon Town Hall, AMOPA, Saint-Gobain Research Provence and 4icom for their support over the last few years. We also extend our thanks to Ôkhra – Ecomuseum of ochre and the CCFF for allowing us to present our shows in a magical natural setting.

With this support, and that of our members, our Festival is able to maintain a shining artistic standard and a solid commitment. To sustain all these perspectives and that of the inhabitants and visitors to this exceptional region, we count on your active support and your presence. The Beckett Festival is as much your festival as it is ours.

The organising team looks forward to welcoming you at the 2024 Beckett Festival!

Stéphane Valensi, Artistic Director of the Beckett Festival
